In August 2006, at the invitation of a supplier, I travelled to Tokyo, Japan, to establish a company branch and engage in technical exchanges with Japanese firms. We built a client base in Ginza, Roppongi, Daikanyama, Asakusa, Shinjuku, and Odaiba, successfully developing the Japanese jewellery market and serving both Japanese retailers and customers. This not only promoted friendly relations between Taiwan and Japan but also helped stabilise product quality and integrity within the supply chain. We brought Japan’s craftsmanship standards and stringent requirements back to Taiwan, establishing our own precious metal fineness standards.

Unfortunately, at that time, many jewellery businesses in Taiwan continued to operate under a commercial model in which the stamped fineness of metals did not match their actual content, fuelling a red ocean of market competition. Moreover, Taiwanese customers generally lacked a mature aesthetic appreciation for fine craftsmanship, creating challenges in balancing aesthetics with design.

Nevertheless, the Japanese experience allowed Ming Ta to grow stronger and develop a deeper understanding of international trade operations.
